Winner tie! ŁKS promoted to PKO BP Ekstraklasa!

ŁKS fans have been waiting for this day for a long time, but they finally got it! On Friday evening, the Łódź Sports Club team drew 1:1 with Arka Gdynia in the 33rd round of the Fortuna 1 League. Such a result meant that players from central Poland were given promotion to the PKO BP Ekstraklasa.

Before the match, the ŁKS players were aware that at least a draw would allow them to enjoy a direct promotion to the elite. Łódź finished first in the table with a five-point lead over third-placed Wisla Kraków, who have a better overall balance.

Friday’s encounter was very important for Arka, who is also fighting for promotion to the PKO BP Ekstraklasa, but must first secure a pass to play in the playoffs. Gdynia was ranked 7th with the same achievement as Stal Rzeszow 6th.

The match started brightly for the home side, who took the lead in the 13th minute thanks to a Przemyslaw Stolik goal. It could have been better, because Hubert Adamczyk missed the penalty kick in the 21st minute. The Arca player not only took a terrible kick defended by Aleksandr Bobek, but missed the rebound catastrophically, missing the goal a few meters away.

According to the saying that untapped opportunities are like revenge, Gdynia fans can shiver to the end for a favorable outcome. And really. In the 84th minute, ŁKS’ bench exploded due to a goal scored by Mateusz Kowalczyk.

Since no more goals were scored in this match, the draw meant that ŁKS was promoted to the PKO BP Ekstraklasa after a break of three years! In the last round, Łódź will play at home with Odra Opole and will only fight for first place at the end of the season.

Arka moved up to sixth, a point behind Stal Rzeszów, who will play away to GKS Tychy on Sunday.

The architect of success – just like four years ago – turned out to be coach Kazimierz Moskal, who returned to the club from Łódź last summer.
