The European Volleyball Federation (CEV) has decided to maintain the suspension of Russian and Belarusian clubs for the 2023/2024 season. This means that local teams will not be able to participate in international competitions.

The UEFA Champions League, CEV Cup and Challenge Cup will be played in the 2023/2024 season without Russian and Belarusian teams. This, of course, applies to both men’s and women’s clubs. This is an official decision from CEV. So EU officials endorsed the suspension that began last year, when Russian forces, supported by Belarus, attacked the territory of Ukraine.

Such a decision also means that teams from other leagues will be given extra places in European cups. In the case of men, the opportunity to play in the Champions League will be given to the third team in the Bundesliga, vice-champions of the Czech Republic and champions of Portugal. In the case of women, the third team will be from Poland – Podolany Lodz, vice-champion of Ukraine and champion of Hungary.
