The representative of the host country is the best in the eighteenth stage of the Giro d’Italia. Thomas is still the leader

Italy’s Filippo Zana of the Jayco AlUla team has won the 18th stage of the Giro d’Italia cycling race at Val di Zoldo in the Dolomites. Britain’s Geraint Thomas (Eneos Grenadiers) retained the leader’s pink jersey.
Zana was overtaken by the last of the breakaway’s companions, Frenchman Thibaut Pinot (Groupama-FDJ). Third place went to France’s Warren Barguil (Arkia Samsik), 50 seconds behind.
Thomas finished the mountain stage in 8th place alongside Slovenian Primoz Roglic (Jumbo-Visma) whom he unsuccessfully tried to lose at the end. Portugal’s Joao Almeida (UAE Team Emirates) lost 21 seconds to these two.
In the general classification, Thomas is 29 seconds ahead of Roglic. Almeida dropped to third, 39 seconds down. Only these three knights count in the battle for victory in the Giro, which ends Sunday in Rome.
