Colombian Santiago Buitrago From Team Bahrain Victorious won the toughest royal stage of the Giro d’Italia cycling race, from Longarone to Tre Cime di Lavaredo in the Dolomites. The nineteenth stage was 183 kilometers long: departing from Longarone and arriving at the 2304-meter Cima Coppi (highest peak). Going up to the finish line, Buitrago held the most power of the breakaway riders. The 23-year-old Colombian was 51 seconds ahead Canadian Derek G (Israel-Premier Tech) and at 1.46 Danish Magnus Kurt (EF Education-EasyPost).
For the Colombian, it is the first podium in the Tour. Before the race, his best finish was 11th.
The leader’s pink jersey was defended by the British Geraint Thomas (Eneos Grenadiers). Losses fell to the leader of the Giro d’Italia Primoz Roglic (Jumbo Visma). The Slovenian crossed the finish line three seconds ahead of Thomas.
After stage 19, the difference between the two riders is 26 seconds. third Joao Almeida (UAE Emirates Team) is already 59 seconds behind.
