He escaped seven times, and came second three times. He never won again

Making his Grand Tour debut, the 25-year-old Canadian G has been riding very briskly. On as many as seven stages, he managed to break away, ahead of the peloton he led a total of over 1,000 km. However, he never managed to win a stage. Now he’s in second place for the third time!

Gee led the final climb to Tre Cime di Lavaredo, but Colombian Santiago Buitrago was catching up and overtaking him. This is the rider’s second victory in the Giro d’Italia, as he won last year’s stage. The G51 ended up losing seconds to him, with another escapee, Magnus Kurt, about a minute behind.

The Dane arrived ahead of the best cyclists at the top of the general classification. The top three did not change hands, but just like the day before, Primo Roglic also won. The runner-up beat race leader Geraint Thomas by 3 seconds and third placed Joao Almeida won by 23 seconds.

In the standings, Thomas is now 26 seconds ahead of Roglic, 59 seconds ahead of Almeida, and four minutes ahead of Damiano Caruso. The Italian reclaimed fourth place from Ireland’s Eddie Dunbar.

Stage 20 is an 18.6km time trial with a start in Tarvisio and a final climb to Monte Lusari. The race will run until May 28 and end in Rome.
