Górnik Zabrze made a decision about Urban’s future

The club announced that Jan Orban would remain the coach of the players for Gornik Zabrze for the next two years. The former Polish representative has been leading this team since May 27, 2021, with a nine-month break.
The 61-year-old Orban won three Polish championships as a footballer with Gornik, then moved to Spain’s Osasuna Pamplona. He returned to Zabrze in 1998 to finish his career there.

In the past, he was the coach of Legia Warszawa, with which he won the Polish championship in 2013, Lech Pozna and Śląsk Wrocław. The 57-time Polish actor parted ways with the latter club in February 2018.
Gornik finished the previous season in eighth place, but unexpectedly in June 2022, just after the start of summer preparations, Orbán was removed from the squad. He was replaced by Polish-born German Bartosch Gaul, who had previously worked with the reserves of FSV Mainz in the fourth division.
In March 2023, when the specter of relegation looked into Zabrze’s eyes, activists called on Orban, whose contract was valid until June, to work. Under Orban’s stewardship, the Silesian side advanced to sixth place by winning their last six league matches.
The contract for the next two seasons was signed a week ago by veteran striker Lukas Podolski, the 2014 world champion in Germany’s colors.
