Committee to Investigate Russian Influence. Bodnar: It’s not about any explanation, the goal is purely political

It’s not about making things clear, but about being able to humiliate someone in a committee forum, and then lead to the fact that the person will be denied the opportunity to participate in public life, former ombudsman Adam Bodnar said in “Fakty po Faktach”. He spoke this way about the bill creating a commission to investigate Russian influences introduced by the Law and Justice Party.

The House Committee on Administration and Home Affairs supported the Senate’s veto of the law proposed by the Law and Justice Party Creation of the State Commission for the Study of Russian Influences on internal security of the Republic of Poland in the years 2007-2022. The House of Representatives will now consider the bill, and the government has announced that it will pass.

Bodnar: The goal is purely political, related to the elections

Professor Adam Bodnar, formerly Grievances SecretaryHe said on TVN24’s “Fakty po Faktach” that “this committee really has a political goal”.

– Combines different functions. It’s not about making things clear, but about being able to humiliate someone in a committee forum, and then lead to the fact that a person may be deprived of the opportunity to participate in public life – at his discretion.

– What is more, if there is any resistance, then (there will be – editor’s note) fines of PLN 20,000, PLN 50,000, and the involvement of the Prosecutor’s Office for bringing persons to the committee forum. He added that the goal is purely political, related to the elections, and I think there is no doubt about that.

“There is no such legislation at all.”

Bodnar was asked whether the commission, if formed, would take place in accordance with the law and operate legally. – The question of constitutionality should lead to the fact that such an act is not considered at all, – answered the former Commissioner for Human Rights.

– But, unfortunately, since 2016 we have become accustomed to the fact that projects that were fundamentally unconstitutional have been submitted more than once, but there is no bogeyman in the form of an independent constitutional court, and Law and justice Urge the passage of a particular law and repeat the same pattern. We close our eyes, dip our head, step forward and wake up the moment when the law is passed and can be put into action – he said.

A TVN24 guest said that “As we discuss this issue today, we have a very interesting comparison.” Because today there was a very important ruling of the Supreme Court on acquittal, Conviction overturned in Berzi’s trial pointed out.

As Bodnar said, “Then the Sanation camp put the opposition in prison, in Brzeg Castle and sentenced them, depriving them of their liberty.” – Now there are other tools. “Now there are tools to humiliate people and pursue someone,” he added.

He explained that he meant “a mechanism to harass the opposition in a country that is no longer democratic.” – In a country where there is a party monopoly and a political goal justifies different kinds of actions. A country where the law is nothing but a tool to wage this political war. He added that this committee was the core of such an approach.

Constitutional Court Act. “You can’t change the rules of the game for a very specific situation.”

Bodnar also spoke about the Law and Justice Party’s deputies’ bill, which provides for a reduction in the number of judges needed to determine the full composition of the Constitutional Court. According to experts and the opposition, this is another example of manual control of this institution and the creation of a law for the sake of the current political interest.

TVN24’s guest stated that “it is law and justice that have led to this threshold being raised” in the entire composition of the Constitutional Court, so the current action “shows true intentions.” You cannot change the rules of the game for a very specific situation. He stressed that regardless of the outcome of this case, simply behaving in this way exposes the intentions and cannot be considered acceptable.

He also argued that “the most important thing is that we not only focus on these individual stories and consider them in terms of some law-making scandals, but look more broadly at how these different norms have changed for us and to what conclusions. This leads in the context of eroding the functioning of state institutions “.

– This reflection should lead us to June 4 in the context of opposition to the government, as well as to the parliamentary elections that will take place in a few months and which – I hope – will be able to sum up this devastation of the state – added Bodnar.

head of the PO Donald Tusk In mid-April he called “everyone to a noon rally on June 4 in Warsaw” which was to be organized “against price hikes, theft and lies for free elections and a democratic European Poland”. June 4 marks the anniversary of the partially free parliamentary elections of 1989. The vote ended in victory for Solidarity.
